Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about VeloScope and bike maintenance tracking

Does VeloScope work with pre-existing or used components?

Yes, during setup, estimate your component's current mileage using the dropdown options. If unsure, select 'I'm not sure' and VeloScope will start tracking from zero. The app then tracks future wear accurately from that point.

Do I need to have my bike set up in Strava?

Yes, your bike must be registered as 'gear' in Strava. VeloScope uses your bike's odometer reading to track component wear automatically. Add a bike in Strava: Settings > My Gear > Add Bike.

Can I turn off the automatic Strava activity descriptions?

Yes, you can disable this feature anytime. Go to Settings and toggle off 'Auto Strava Description'. This stops VeloScope from adding component health summaries to your activity descriptions.

Can I customize how long my components should last?

Yes, you can set custom mileage limits for each component. On any component page, click 'Adjust Life' to update the expected lifespan. VeloScope will recalculate health percentages based on your custom settings.

What bike components can I track with VeloScope?

Currently: chains, cassettes, and tires. These components wear out most frequently and impact performance and safety. More components (brake pads, rotors, bottom brackets, cables) are planned for future updates.

How accurate is VeloScope's component tracking?

VeloScope uses your Strava bike's odometer as the source of truth, making it as accurate as your Strava data. The app automatically updates when you upload rides and accounts for ride deletions or changes.

What happens when a component reaches its wear limit?

VeloScope sends notifications when components need replacement. You'll see dashboard warnings and receive alerts, helping you replace parts before they fail and cause more expensive damage.

Can I use VeloScope with multiple bikes?

For now, VeloScope beta supports one bike per account. Multi-bike support is planned as a premium feature for cyclists with road, mountain, gravel, and other bikes.
